Guardianship

At Care Coordinators our goal is to maintain as much independence for each ward as they are able to manage.
A good guardian will take into account the wishes and desires of the ward when making decisions about residence, medical treatments, and end-of life decisions. Care Coordinators, Inc. works closely with wards, their families and attorneys to determine the best possible plan of care based on the abilities, desires and needs of the ward while respecting history, social structures, medical and behavioral issues, current placement and available financial resources.
Because establishing guardianship is a legal process that involves the removal of the individual’s rights, considerable due process protection often exists when the guardianship is established. Care Coordinators, Inc. works closely with attorneys and other representatives to insure that all issues are presented to maximize the wards independence and maximize success. The guiding principle in all guardianship is that of least intrusive measures to assure as much autonomy as possible. Please consult with an attorney (preferably with related experience, such as an elder law attorney) to discuss the options regarding guardianship for an incapacitated individual, the legal approach to appointment of the guardian and to obtain an estimate of the costs of court proceedings.
